Best Electric Head Shaver

1. Wahl Professional 785110 5-Star Series Clipper

Wahl Professional 785110 5-Star Series ClipperWahl Professional 785110 5-Star Series ClipperNeed a powerful single cut clipper? This is it, it has a fast speed motor and even has 2 cutting blades for different lengths.

In the pack you get a comb, the pre shave brush, the safety blade guard and some oil to keep it well lubed and fully operational.

These surgical blades can cut hair right down to zero, yes this thing can make you completely bald, if this is the look you are going for.

The shaver itself is kind of heavy, that’s not a problem, it feels and looks professional. For such a powerful motor it’s actually not that noisy either.

You can buy extra guards and guides for the unit should you wish to keep a little more on top. I should point out that you can’t clean the shaver with water, this is a big no, no.

The power cord is pretty long too which is a massive bonus, it stretches out to about 8 feet. The blades are good on sensitive skin too, great news for people that suffer from razor bumps.

It’s not overly expensive either, there are cheaper alternatives on the market but they do not feel or look as professional as this set of clippers.

You can use the shaver to trim your beard also but it can be quite tricky and rather easy to pull your hair or even cut yourself, you are better off getting a good electric facial shaver for this that can also give a good head shave too.

For anyone that want a shaver that will give them a quick and easy bald cut then this is the one. You can have all your hair whipped off in just 5 minutes.

Some say they are just as good as professional clippers that your barber would use. You will not experience any skin irritation if you go with this shaver.

I would say that it goes extremely close to the skin, right down to a single days growth length. Many say the clippers last well too, some say a good few years if you look after them.

One negative point to mention is that you have to be very careful using this head shaver, the blades are very sharp, it is super easy to cut yourself, so be careful.

On the plus side, the sharp blades enable it to cut hair really very easily and in the right hands this shaver is top class and will whip hair off in no time at all.

Saying that, if you are cutting your own hair for the first time then many would not recommend these, you could very easily make a mistake and make a complete mess of yourself.

2. SS Bald Eagle Smart by SkullShaver

SS Bald Eagle Smart by SkullShaverSS Bald Eagle Smart by SkullShaver is a funny looking device, yes it is an electric head shaver, it can even be used to shave your face. They come highly regarded because the shape of the shaver makes shaving your head so much easier.

The rather funky design even makes it easy to shave your legs and pretty much anywhere on your body. It has 5 rotary cutters, so shaving your head is super fast with this thing.

The mounting area is very flexible too making it very easy to shave in those hard to get to places, it’s also noted to be good on sensitive skin too, you will not suffer any skin irritation or burn using this shaver.

Cleaning is a breeze too, you don’t even have to remove the heads, you just simple rinse the top part under water and you are ready to go again.

Compared to other shavers the Bald Eagle does take quite a while to fully charge up, which could put many people off. The shaver takes a whopping 5 hours to fully charge.

A full charge will give you 70 minutes of shaving time, which is actually quite impressive. You can use for a dry or wet shaver however you can’t use it in the shower.

There is also a useful LED display that lets you know exactly when it needs to be recharged. The motor is very powerful too and will cut even the thickest of hair with ease.

It comes with a protective carry case should you need to take it on holiday with you. If you are going for a wet shave you have to use foam, it can’t be used with gel, it will slow the motor down.

It’s so small it actually fits neatly into the palm of your hand, it provides a lovely and rather comfortable shave, it’s now easy to shave your head by yourself.

One major plus is that it can be used plugged in too, you can also use it cordless. The stand that it comes with is rather useful, just pop it on there to dry after you have cleaned it.

Having a strong motor it even works great cutting afro hair. The other down side to afro shaving is that the blades will need changing more often, around 4 months. The blades are fairly cheap to replace anyway.

Unfortunately the batteries can’t be replaced, you will have to buy a completely new shaver when they go dead. They should last for years though.

It’s not the closest shave you will get, probably not the best shaver for the completely bald look, although many use it combined with a manual blade, which works really well.

It does not have a quick charge feature, so when the battery dies you have to charge again for a full 5 hours before you can use it again.

3. Braun Series 3-340s Wet & Dry Electric Shaver

Braun Series 3-340s Wet & Dry Electric ShaverBraun Series 3-340s Wet & Dry ShaverThis bad boy came number 1 in our all time top 10 men’s electric shavers, it’s so good it can even give a good head shave and is very well priced too.

This has to be the absolute best foil shaver around, if you want a good electric head shaver that will shave all the rest of your body with ease too then this is it.

You know it is going to be able to tackle thick head hair when it is stated as being capable of cutting thick beards with ease. It can be used wet and dry with foams and gels and can even used in the shower.

It has a built in trimmer too so you can get your side burns looking neat and tidy. It’s so smooth on the skin too, perfect for people that suffer from shaving rash and burns.

The LED display lets you know when it needs recharging and the battery used in the shaver is top quality and will not be affected by repeat charges. People state that the battery lasts a long time too, will definitely last longer than two years.

Ladies even swear by these shavers for shaving their legs and say that they give them the closest shave that you can get other than using a manual blade.

To fully charge the shaver it takes 1 and a half hours and can then be charged up for just 10 minutes from dead to give one quick shave.

Cleaning is super easy to, just run it under the tap, or even better, shave in the shower and clean it while you shave. Many people find it very hard to find a fault with this shaver.

Because of the large head area some people might find it a little tricky shaving under the nose area, not a major problem, no problem at all if you are buying it as a head shaver.

It’s not the cheapest on the market but is the very best performance wise, which is why it had become so popular worldwide.

Because it does give such a close shave some people may suffer burn, these people are in the minority, using a good gel or foam will stop this from happening.

Although it’s not self cleaning some say that this is a bonus because you don’t have to buy expensive cleaning cartridges.

It is built really well and feels good in the hand even when wet, you are unlikely to drop it and break it. Some say that they love to shave everyday now that they have this great shaver.

It’s not heavy either, no one wants an aching arm after shaving do they? Make sure you do keep it clean and free from hair or the shave quality will deteriorate.

Rating: 5/5

  • Built in trimmer for side burns
  • Good on sensitive skin
  • Lets you know when it needs recharging
  • Short charge time

4. Philips Norelco 6948XL/41 Shaver 2100

Philips Norelco 6948XL/41 Shaver 2100So why would you choose this as your preferred head shaver? Well it’s super cheap for one and the blades are self sharpening so will never wear down to deteriorate the cut quality.

This too has a pop up trimmer which is great for trimming your side burns or even your moustache. One major plus is that it can be used plugged in or cordless.

It does take a long 8 hours to fully charge, this will give you a rather poultry 35 minutes shave time. Not the best, but at this price it can’t be grumbled at.

The shaving heads need replacing every 12 months or so, will still work out cheaper in the long term over shaving your head manually with a blade.

It’s probably so popular because it can be used on all power supplies worldwide all around Europe and in the USA. One big let down is that it can’t be used with water, foam or gels.

It is however really good on sensitive skin so you won’t need to use gels or any foam anyway. Because it can’t be used with water you are going to have to clean it with a brush.

It’s also been noted to be a quiet shaver, not sure if anyone wants a quiet head shaver but this is one. Not sure it is powerful enough for thick or afro hair, will be good to use as an everyday head shaver to keep it at bay.

It does perform really well for such a cheap shaver and is even good at cutting under the nose area which many other electric shavers have problems with.

It is a full size shaver so is probably not the best around for taking away on holiday, however it is lightweight and holds its charge really well.

There is no warning light on this shaver to let you know when it needs to be recharged. This could be a problem for many, nothing worse than picking up your shaver and it has no charge. If it had a one shave quick charge feature this would help, but it does not.

For thick hair the Braun is definitely the way to go even though it is a lot more expensive than the Norelco, for a cheap no frills daily use head shaver this is the one.

Being light and mostly made from plastic it does look as cheap as it costs, but who cares, it’s all about the cut quality and if it does the job well that you have bought it to do.

It’s not a massive concern, but it’s not overly comfortable to hold, it will feel a little bulky in most hands. Although it states blades need to be changed every 12 months with low usage they can last 2 or even 3 years.

The cord is a little short and does not stretch very far at all, could well be a big problem for anyone wanting to use it as a head shaver.

Rating: 4/5

Good Points:

  • Very cheap and easy to use
  • Self sharpening blades
  • Can be used plugged in or cordless
  • Can be used worldwide
  • Good on sensitive skin
  • Quiet shaver
  • Lightweight

Bad Points:

  • Takes 8 hours to charge
  • Can’t be used with water or foam
  • Not very powerful, not good on thick hair
  • No LED recharge notification
  • Bulky to hold
  • Short cord

5. Panasonic ES8103S Arc3 Wet & Dry Shaver

Panasonic ES8103S Arc3 Wet & Dry ShaverPanasonic ES8103S Arc 3 with Nanotech BladesThis is a bit more expensive than the Norelco but is surprisingly a lot more popular. It’s very sharp blades will provide a really good head shave.

This shaver has an adjustable head so that you can get it to how you feel the most comfortable. Not only are the blades sharp but the motor is fast too, it will shave your head in no time at all.

This shaver can be used in the shower or even the bath, yes it can be fully submerged in water. Because the motor is fast you will experience no tugging or pulling at your hair at all, it is powerful enough to cope with thick long hair.

It comes with a travel pouch and is even known to be good on sensitive skin, no more rashes or skin burns with this shaver.

If you look closely at the picture you will notice that the blades arc outwardly, this is done to give you a closer shave making it easy to get into hard to get to areas on your head.

The digital display conveniently lets you know when it needs to be recharged and is so considerate that it even lets you know when it needs to be cleaned to avoid reduced shaving quality.

You can’t use the shaver while it is plugged in, however it can be charged up in five minutes, which will give you enough charge for one head shave.

Many people use this shaver as a head shaver and say it doesn’t leave your head completely smooth although it does feel like it if you don’t rub against the grain.

For a perfectly smooth head shave you are going to have to use a manual blade after you have thinned it out with this electric razor.

If you are going to use it to shave your head daily then it will be okay at keeping things looking smart and tidy, for a completely smooth bald look you may have to look elsewhere.

If you have tender skin on your head then this would be a really good buy and will not cause you any skin burn or other skin irritations, although fast and sharp it is still comfortable on sensitive skin.

Some say that the razors performance will deteriorate after a few years use even when the foil and blades have been replaced, not all experience this but it is something worth taking note of.

Some also experience problems with the power light, not many, but it does happen, so be warned. I suppose this is mostly down to using it in water, if you don’t intend to do this then you will not have this problem.

Rating: 4/5

Good Points:

  • Sharp blades with fast motor
  • Can be used in the shower
  • No tugging or hair pulling
  • Good on sensitive skin
  • Digital display for cleaning & recharging notification

Bad Points:

  • Quite expensive
  • Can’t use when plugged in
  • Problems noted with LED display

That concludes our best electric head shaver list, the best all round body shaver has to be the Braun Series 3. The only shaver purposely designed for head shaving is the Bald Eagle. The Braun does do a pretty good job and is a lot cheaper than the Bald Eagle.
